Buccal Fat Removal

Buccal Fat Removal_3
There are numerous planes in the cheek where excess fat can be found, including the subcutaneous and deep planes. The buccal fat is a fat pad deep in the facial musculature, situated just superficial to the inner cheek lining. Through ageing or inherent weakness of the fascia surrounding the buccal fat pad, or by excess volume, the buccal fat can protrude outwards in the cheek and give the cheek a puffy appearance or form an unsightly lump on the cheek skin.

What to expect during a buccal fat removal procedure

The buccal fat can be addressed scarlessly through an incision made on the inside of the cheek and can be performed in isolation or as an adjunct to a facelift procedure. Performed well, it is very safe. Depending on the amount of buccal fat you have, results may vary. Your plastic surgeon will assess you to determine the cause of your puffy cheeks and recommend the most appropriate treatment modality.
