Nasal Hump Reduction

The nasal dorsum is made up of bone as well as cartilage, specifically the paired upper lateral cartilages. Nasal humps are often made up of both bone and cartilage. To reduce nasal humps, plastic surgeons employ a mix of nasal bone rasping, osteotomies, and cartilage shaving, in what is termed a component dorsal hump reduction. These need to be performed carefully and may require adjunct sutures and cartilage grafting to prevent ‘open-roof’ deformities (where the nasal bridge appears flat) or reduced nasal airflow. Nasal hump reduction procedures can be done through a closed or open approach.
