The lips comprise the entire upper and lower lip, as well as the area between the upper lip and nose, including the philtrum columns and Cupid’s bow. Youthful, sensual lips are full and proportionate to the lower face. As we age, the lips tend to lengthen, lose volume, and form creases. From the facial side view, the lips should also harmoniously blend in with the contours of the nose and chin.
Plastic surgical procedures of the lips involve restoration of youthful contours and enhancement to achieve aesthetic ideals. These procedures include less invasive procedures such laser resurfacing or the use of fillers and fat grafting to volumize and fill the lips, to surgical procedures to lift the upper lip and reestablish the golden ratio of the face. Most of these can be performed under local anaesthesia.
