Fractional laser resurfacing is a highly precise and controlled method of resurfacing the skin, akin to a chemical peel but with more predictability and shorter downtime. This is done using high-density grids of lasers at set wavelengths to remove the skin layers down to specific depths. This grid pattern of resurfacing allows for small pockets of normal skin between the resurfaced skin to replicate more quickly during the healing phase, eventually coalescing and forming a smooth and even skin surface.

What to expect from a fractional laser resurfacing

This treatment allows for shorter downtime of 4 to 7 days compared to full face resurfacing and has the added effect of thermal stimulation of collagen formation, stimulating a rejuvenation and tightening effect in the dermis. Fractional laser resurfacing is an excellent way of maintaining a youthful and smooth appearance of the skin, treating facial acne scarring, and as an adjunct to surgical facial rejuvenation procedures.

At Polaris Plastic Surgery, we provide patients with options of fractional non-ablative (Discovery PICOTM) and ablative (Smartxide CO2TM) laser resurfacing services. Depending on your needs and tolerance for downtime, your plastic surgeon will recommend the appropriate form of laser resurfacing for you.
